ECBA Member Update | 4.24.2020

Posted on April 24th, 2020 at 11:34 AM
Yesterday, Governor Wolf announced a process to reopen Pennsylvania with a targeted May 8th start. The state has set a 50 case per 100k capita threshold as a measure to move into the first phase of reopening. Erie County currently has an average of 13.3 cases per 100k capita. Communities must also show the ability to implement monitoring measures such as testing availability, contract tracing capabilities, and safeguards for high-risk areas such as skilled nursing facilities, etc.  See More Q&A on the reopening plan.

At the ECBA, we will be looking at reopening (when appropriate) and implementing social distancing measures as needed. This may include protocols for face masks, disinfectant wipe-down areas, using bright tape to highlight ‘high touch’ areas, ‘x’ marks on the floor in the Carriage House for seating 6 ft. apart, looking at public access, etc. Know that right now, we are offering complimentary Zoom Meeting and conference call services – contact me at jskresge@eriebar.com for details. CLEs are being scheduled as well and will be completed by Zoom Meeting – approved by the PACLE Board.

The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Fund has raised $2,215 – and that is without the $1,000 ECBA match, so many thanks are extended to everyone that has donated! If you would like to donate but haven’t had an opportunity yet, you can go to www.eriebar.com/pay by April 27th or mail a check to the ECBA, attn.: J. Kresge, 429 West 6th Street, Erie, PA 16507. Funds raised will be split between Erie’s three local hospitals, St. Vincent Hospital, UPMC Hamot, and Millcreek Community Hospital, specifically for the purchase of PPE for their staff.

Don’t forget that the ECBA is hosting a Blood Drive on May 6th in our Carriage House. Again, with social distancing guidelines in place along with the Community Blood Bank inspection, this is a great way to help the Erie community. To register, email N. Theuerkauf at nrtheuerkauf@eriebar.com. Learn more at www.eriebar.com/blooddrive.

Join the ABA for the 2020 national Law Day program, Social Movement Changing America: The Legacies of the 19th Amendment, a live online panel discussion on Thursday, April 30th, 2:30-3:30 p.m./Central. The program is a collaboration of the Division for Public Education and the Law Library of Congress. This year’s Law Day theme—Your Vote, Your Voice, Our Democracy: The 19th Amendment at 100—aligns with the Library of Congress exhibition, Shall Not Be Denied: Women Fight for the Vote, celebrating the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment and considering its complex legacies.
