Clerk of Records Closed to the Public

Posted on March 19th, 2020 at 11:38 AM

In an effort to restrict potential covid-19 exposure within the courthouse,  and consistent with the Pennsylvania supreme court order dated March 18, 2020, all clerk of records offices (prothonotary, clerk of courts, register of wills/orphans’ court recorder of deeds) are closed to the public for non-essential functions through at least April 3, 2020.

We ask that all lawyers, their staff and couriers, bank personnel and all others not enter any clerk of records offices beginning March 20, 2020.

However, all offices will have limited staff to process essential functions.  We will make limited accommodations for title searchers and law firm couriers (limited to 1 trip/day).  All clerk of records offices will make limited accommodations to receive filings/recordings.

Therefore, it is preferred that documents/filings be sent by mail or overnight courier when possible and feasible.

Bar members are encouraged to utilize e-recording for the recording of their real estate related documents in Erie County.

This policy may change as circumstances change.

Thank you.

David W. Bradford, Esq.
First Deputy Recorder of Deeds
