In its 30th year, the PBA/YLD Mock Trial Competition is one of largest in the nation. The Competition gives student teams from across the state the opportunity to act as lawyers and witnesses in simulated trials before actual judges and panels of juries in real courtrooms. The juries determine the winners in each trial based on the teams' abilities to prepare their cases, present arguments and follow court rules. This firsthand experience gives students a better understanding of both the legal profession and America's judicial system. Lawyers volunteer to assist students as team advisors, scorekeepers and regional coordinators. Students are assisted by a faculty coach as well.
Teams compete locally in their district, with winners advancing to regional and state competitions. This year the winning team will go on to represent Pennsylvania in the national competition being held in Indianapolis.
