Take a broad first look at the new HITECH rules
After a two year rule making process, the Office for Civil Rights has finalized the HITECH mega-rule amendments to HIPAA. The legal impact of the new rules are far reaching.

Assess the compliance tasks ahead
Covered entity providers and plans will face new compliance challenges dealing with permitted communication, prohibitions on sale of PHI, adjusting to new patient rights including expanded accounting obligations and access to PHI.

Drill into the changes that will most affect your clients
Business associates (including lawyers) will face legal obligations on top of existing contractual obligations that will drive most business associates to comply fully with the security standards, most of the privacy standards and obligations for breach notification. Enforcement has been greatly enhanced with far more robust penalties and increasingly expensive and demanding audits and settlements.
