MARRIAGE COUNSELING
Marriage counseling helps couples evaluate marital issues and
assess marital strengths and weaknesses. Through marriage counseling,
couples can clarify their concerns and make decisions whether
to work toward reconciliation or to terminate an unsuccessful
marriage.
When a couple chooses to work toward a reconciliation, counseling
focuses on building marital strength. If couples choose to end
the marriage, individual counseling may benefit each spouse in
addressing individual concerns and providing adjustment support.
According to the Pennsylvania Divorce Code, when the grounds
for a divorce are indignities or irretrievable breakdown of a
marriage either party may request marriage counseling. The courts
can order both parties in the divorce to attend three (3) one-hour
sessions of marriage counseling.
